Affordable Remy Lace Closure

I'm new to this closure thing. Lace, silk, invisible part...it was all like, "huh?!?!" to me.

Now, I don't know how I ever got through my partial weaves without wearing one!

I just installed my first, home-made u-part wig with some virgin brazilian hair that I won in a giveaway on YouTube and I needed something to go with it (more on that hair to come). Being that the cold Canadian weather is hitting now, I need to protect the hair that I've been surprisingly growing at a rapid rate this past year.

Jumped into my car. Sped over to the local beauty supply store and searched. $28.99 later, and this is what I happily skipped out of the store with from a brand called "Hollywood":

ON THE UP SIDE:

Remy Human Hair - it's really good quality, very soft.
Parting space is natural.
Holds curls very well.
Blends beautifully with virgin hair or beauty supply store hair.

ON THE DOWN SIDE:

Lace is like...plastic, kinda. I think.
Only one length offered - 10"
Unable to tweeze part - will rip the lace.

IN A NUTSHELL:

I'd recommend it for first-timers and those that don't want to spend $150 for a piece of hair attached to material that your significant other, mother or child may mistake for a toupee.

Get it at your local BSS or online!!

See Clearly for Nearly Nothing with Clearly Contacts

If you are looking *no pun intended* for a way to afford that pair of glasses that you have kept putting off, either for lack of available funds or fear of looking totally "not cool", look no further than Clearly Contacts (Coastal Contacts in the US).

I am one of those people that have almost always needed glasses, but hated the way I looked with them. Flashbacks to when I was 12 and looked like a "four-eyed" nerd *shudder*. It was not a cute look. Then it became a matter of deciding between glasses and contacts - the latter of which I chose. I got tired of the contacts though, tired of losing one in the car while putting the finishing touches on my makeup while going to a club. Tired of ripping them accidentally. Tired of feeling like I had a piece of glass embedded in my eye, when it really was just a tiny fleck of dust. Tired of the cleaning. Just TIRED of everything associated with them!

Then glasses became somewhat of a chic thing to wear. It became an accessory. People that didn't even need glasses were sporting them without prescription lenses.

Now how was I going to get a pair when lenses usually run over $100 and then the frames ran over $100? My budget would not allow it!

Then I found Clearly Contacts....

Clearly Contacts is the leading eyeglass online retailer in Canada. I remember the days years ago when I used to see their advertisements and see the infamous words, "Get Your 1st Pair FREE!" and thinking to myself, "Yeah right. There has to be a catch".

Well, 1 day, about 2 years ago, those words were emblazoned on my computer screen as an ad on a website, and I clicked to see what the heck this company was trying to get out of people.

5 minutes of skimming through the site, I realized they weren't trying to get ANYTHING.

It isn't a scam. There are no secret contracts where you have to buy one now, and obligating you to buy more later.. eh, hem Columbia House...eh hem. You literally get your first pair free. The only thing you have to pay for is shipping and handling, which was around $15 for me in Toronto, as well as any special coatings you require such as anti-reflective, scratch resistance, etc. Even those items are cheap - you can bundle and get the entire package for like $20 max!

You do have to be aware of the fact that if you need special lenses or want ultra-thin lenses - because you're "too cool for school", or you suffer from astigmatism -  you do pay an additional amount. But it will STILL be way less than you would pay through your optician. Those that just need a basic pair of regular lenses can enjoy their first pair free, free, FREE!

When I tell people about this, they usually are very skeptical, but I can say I have been responsible for about 20 purchases that were made from people at work when they finally looked into themselves! I personally have purchased about 7 pairs of glasses - including these Fendi ones for $16.99 (after my $20 referal credit was applied:

Today, I grabbed this pair of Guess glasses for an unbelievable $12.90 (thanks to another $20 referral credit)!!:

It's Cyber Monday. They are offering free shipping and handling, free coatings bundle, and up to 60% off of frames. Yeah. Seriously.

The frame selection is amazing - frames for the whole family. They offer contacts at competitive prices. You have nothing to lose, except for maybe $15. Did I mention they have a 365 day return policy?

SPECIAL DELIVERY - Lip Factory Inc.!

I'm so excited! I got my first Lip Factory box today!

I recently cancelled my GlossyBox - sorry Glossybox, but that sudden $7 jump in subscription price  hurt my feelings - and was looking for something new. After a lot of searching, and reading reviews and such, I settled on Lip Factory - and I am sooooo glad I did.

Lip Factory is a relatively new beauty box subscription that is available internationally. As the name suggests, they focus primarily on lip products, but I browsed through their site, and they do show what was given in the boxes in September and October of this year, 2012.

The box costs $22 US dollars per month, which at the time I subscribed was $22.60 Canadian dollars. This price does include shipping! It arrived just 8 days after the date I subscribed which I think is pretty good. What gives Lip Factory an advantage over other companies, such as....I shall not name any names... is that they have set shipping dates. As a matter of fact, they shipped mine out the day after I subbed; I JUST caught the cut off time - whew! The customer service is amazing too - very personable and friendly.
The November box that I received was full of amazing products.....take a look:

ITEMS IN NOVEMBER BOX:

Loreal HIP Jelly Balm
Stila Lip Rouge Liquid Lip Stain
Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Mini Lip Gloss in Passion
Nabi Cosmetics Lip Gloss
Laura Geller Lip Strip Cooling Sugar Scrub
Diamond Cosmetics Lip Liner
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter Sample
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer
....AND a few more bonus glosses!

Can't wait for the December Box!!

Ruby Kisses Cosmetics

I was at my local beauty supply store a few months ago, and came across a section where all the makeup products are kept. I, am one of those frugal shoppers - especially when it comes to makeup - so I decided to just see what they have, because you never know where "you'll find a great find to help you look great" ;) They had the usual products like stuff that is obviously imported from across seas, in that country that is on the far side of the earth (hint, hint, wink, wink). I saw that there was a collection of items by a company named Ruby Kisses. Initially, I thought it had to be a really..ummm...no nameish, translucent, doesn't stay on your face, wake up in the morning with hives type of makeup. Well, I was so wrong.

I picked up one of the foundations which was called the 3D Face Creator. Okay, so i definitely didn't need to make my face like some movie effect, but what did interest me about it, was the fact that this 3D Creator had two shades, side-by-side in one little compact. Being a chocolate lady, I was certain that one of the 12 shades had to work for me.

They carry 16 "Levels", so that equals 32 shades in cool and warm undertones in total for that collection! If you can't find your skin match.....something's wrong. Definitely wrong. The line caters to women of all covers - so you chocolate, caramel, cappuccino and vanilla ladies have nothing to worry about
!

This nifty, creative, holy-grailable cream to powder foundation can be used as either foundation or concealer or even contouring! It's super blendable and has a fab concealer consistency and coverage. Totally blendable. Loves it.

I also picked up these other items (images to follow):

  • 24 Hr Defining Auto Eye Liner
  • Liquid Liner
  • HD Set n' Forget Setting Powder in Translucent, Earth & Banana
  • 24 Hr Eyeshadow Magic  Primer
  • Auto Lip Liner
  • All Over Glow Bronzing Powder  in Deep Glow and Bronze Glow
  • 3D Face Creator in Levels 9, 12 and 16
I would HIGHLY recommend checking out your local beauty supply store, or drugstore to check if they carry this line. You can also browse their products here. They are unbelievably inexpensive (ranging from 1.99 to 4.99) and the quality is very comparable to higher end lines - only Ruby Kisses will allow you still have dinero left to put towards groceries and other mommy necessities!

I will be doing individual reviews and swatches in another post.

Till next time dahlin's - stay true and forever uniquely you!

WORKING MOMMY MORNING ROUTINE

Monday to Friday Mornings.

Ohhhhh....what a "joy" - total sarcasm.

Mornings are a complete struggle when you are a "single" mom working full-time. It's a race to get out the door, to daycare and then to work in record time, while still trying to look like you actually cared about what you looked like before walking out the door. I refuse to look like a frumpy mummy and let myself go. So much easier said than done. At times, I wish I had the ability to just throw on some jeans, a t-shirt, throw my hair into a ponytail and leave, but it is NEVER that simple! Also, it seems that I forget something (like, Puddy's bottle, my laptop for work, my lunch, etc) almost everyday. Maybe I just need to get organized. Yeah.

This is my morning mommy routine (oh, and "Puddy" is my little guy, Ashten ;):
